Palliative Care is a specialized field of medicine that focuses on the holistic care of people who have been diagnosed with a life limiting illness.
Hospice does not offer this care. Our patients need specialized nursing care from our Professional Palliative Care nurses. To learn more about our admissions process and requirements please click here.
The Support Centre is for patients needing symptom and pain control, and they are referred there by their Palliative Care professional.
Patients need to be referred by their medical professionals. We need their full medical history. However, please ask the nurses about how to register.
Hospice care costs the same as any medical treatment but patients will never be refused care due to their financial circumstances. Fundraising allows us to treat those in difficult circumstances. Some medical aids cover the cost of Palliative Care and some patients pay privately.
A Patient centered care plan is our focus and they have the right to refuse care. We will always act in the best interests of the patients, and support the immediate family and loved ones.
Helderberg Hospice is not a frail care facility. Anyone can get a life limiting illness and need Palliative Care. It is the diagnosed illness that determines whether this is the appropriate treatment.
