World Cancer Day

February 4th is World Cancer Day, initiated in 2000 by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to raise awareness about screening and early detection of treatable cancers. The aim is to remind us that everyone has a role to play in the fight against cancer, and that equitable care should be available to all. On this day we remember those people and their loved ones who have been affected by cancer, and we continue to celebrate their strength and courage throughout their individual journeys. In commemorating World Cancer Day, you can make a difference by undergoing regular screening and by discussing the importance of early detection with those around you. Help to “Close the Care Gap”!

Let’s make sure to:

• Wear sunscreen every day and wear a hat when spending time outdoors.
• Check our bodies regularly for any lumps and seek medical advice if necessary.
• Check moles regularly, and should they change colour and/or shape, seek medical advice.
• Get the regular checkups recommended by medical professionals.
