Wendy Koblischke is a caregiver who has no bounds for giving
She has been a volunteer at Helderberg Hospice since July 2015, and presently Wendy gives personal care to one of our patients, Mr Daniels and his wife June, on a regular basis.
Mr and Mrs Daniels don’t have transport of their own, so twice a week, Wendy takes them to wherever they need to go. This may be from home to the shopping mall and back or to the bus stop early in the morning, to make sure Mr Daniels catches the bus to Tygerberg Hospital for his check-ups.
Wendy is a star volunteer as she also works at reception on a bi-weekly basis, answering our switchboard, and is an integral part of the hospitality team catering for events and functions. Plus, Wendy collects patient’s meals on a rotational basis from the hospital, delivering them to the 24 Hour Support Centre.
Wendy was encouraged by a family member to get involved with Helderberg Hospice, and she signed up for the caregiver’s course which we run regularly.
Come rain or snow, Wendy is a volunteer we can rely on. Her motivation is that she’s very blessed in life, and if she can be a blessing to others, then that’s fulfilment for her. It’s also her way of giving back to the Helderberg community.
Like Wendy, all our volunteers give their time and their care freely. This is a true gift from the heart.
