On Saturday 6 October 2018, the Helderberg Cricket Club hosted a Charity event consisting of two morning T20 cricket games, followed by two afternoon T20 games, which was contested between Helderberg Cricket Club, Elsies River Cricket Club, Macassar Cricket Club, and a combined team from the Garden Village region. Helderberg CC, along with Elsies River CC advanced to the final in the afternoon game, where Elsies River narrowly got the better of their hosts. The proceeds generated from this event amounted to a staggering R5000.00 which was equally shared between the two identified charities, namely Helderberg Hospice and the Michael Parks Foundation. Ward councillor Mr Peck was in attendance to oversee the proceedings. Cheryl Rundle from Helderberg Hospice and Celeste Parks from Michael Parks Foundation were in attendance to receive the proceeds raised on behalf of their organisation. Garth Hurling, chairperson of Helderberg Cricket Club welcomed all guests and commended the visiting cricket clubs for accepting the invite to support this wonderful initiative, and along with the rest of the executive committee, commits to continue the drive to uplift the surrounding community through sport.
