Cycling for Life: Saturday 1 June 2019

12 Hour Challenge for Charity

Cycling for Life 2019 takes place on Saturday 1 June 201906h00 – 18h00 at the Activity Centre, De Hoop Primary, Somerset West. This is an indoor endurance cycling event. Sponsored teams of cyclists spin on their bikes mounted on trainers, pounding the pedals for 12 hours to raise funds for Helderberg Hospice. Each team member rides for an hour at a time and at the top of the hour the number of kilometres clocked up is recorded onto a data base. High-energy music sets the tone and fuels the pace, backed up by tasty food stalls, drinks and spot prizes throughout the day to boost the cyclists’ staying power.

Many of the cyclists ride because they have been personally touched by the special care of Helderberg Hospice. Some ride in memory of a loved one, others in solidarity with friends or family receiving treatment for cancer.

You are invited to be part of this amazing event, which transforms energy into money!

Teams can enter into one of several categories:

  • Solo Saddle Challenge (1 member)
  • Challenge Team (3 members)
  • Corporate Team (4 - 12 members)
  • Social Team (4 - 12 members)
  • Youth Team (4 - 12 members)

Each team is asked to raise a minimum of R3600 entrance fee (for a team of 12 this equates to R300 per person to reach this easy target). However, the more sponsorship you can get for your team, the better… Cycling for Life is one of the most important community fundraisers for Helderberg Hospice so this is our opportunity to raise as much as we possibly can.

Individuals wanting to ride for the full 12 hours are welcome to take up the Solo Saddle Challenge. The fee is only R500 but we ask you to make a special effort to get lots of additional sponsorship for your marathon ride for Helderberg Hospice.

You may enter the Challenge, Corporate, Social or Youth categories but the following restrictions apply to all and may not be deviated from:

  • Road bikes: Front chain ring max 53, rear cassette min 11
  • Mountain bikes: Front chain ring max 44, rear cassette min 11
