Patients thrive when the focus of their days is diverted from the clinical environment to familiar activities, which is why we encourage socialising. As an activity programme, Day Hospice gives patients the opportunity to interact; affords families and home carers some respite; and allows for special evaluation, clinical monitoring, rehabilitation and care.
The weekly Day Hospice meetings take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and see volunteers transport patients to spend the morning at Helderberg Hospice in Somerset West.
The program offers each participant:
- Spiritual support
- Group and other therapy activities
- Craft activities
- Tea and eats
- Additional outings, as funding allows
- A check-up by home care nurses at Helderberg Hospice if required
- The opportunity to address any practical concerns, such as pensions
